Dear friends of the Nexus Fighter Academy, On the evening of May 18, Abeku Afful, following his decision to leave his MMA club and subsequently permitted to temporarily conduct his training in our academy, became the victim of a brutal attack inside our gym. A group of armed assailants entered our academy and ambushed and attacked Abeku with clubs and knifes. After an emergency operation and further treatment he is out of critical danger. The entire Nexus team wishes him a speedy and complete recovery and looks forward to the arrest and conviction of all the assailants. Due to the fact that the attack occured in our gym, the Nexus name is cited frequently in the media and thus inaccurately links our academy to a certain criminal MMA fight scene and the crime. In the name of the academy and its members we declare this insinuation unjustified and absolutely inaccurate. The assault was not directed at the Nexus gym or its members but was rather a criminal attack on Abeku, conducted in our gym after training hours. No trainers or members of Nexus were attacked or injured during the incident. The motives of the deed are unknown to us and we emphatically distance ourselves from any connection to their origin. Every visitor of our academy senses and appreciates the dedication and passion of the Nexus members who contribute to its growth as a high level training club and maintaining our ideals concerning the important role sport plays in moral and ethical development. This incident is blatantly opposed to all ideas, ideals and efforts that make up Nexus Fighter Academy. The trainers and members of Nexus Fighter Academy.
